Welcome to The ‘Burgh,
Pittsburgh, ostensibly the birthplace of the real life US Airways, has historically been a crucial hub for the airline. However, in recent years with the merger of America West, the focus has shifted from a hub to a secondary hub, and now to a focus city. No one can deny that Pittsburgh remains paramount to the history of US Airways. From humble beginnings as All American Aviation in 1939, US Airways has established itself as a dominant force in air travel. Competing with the likes of Pan Am, Eastern, Delta, United, and American, US Airways have matured into a reputable American airline. It was in Pittsburgh that the prospect of an express airline, as well as codeshares was born.
US Airways is slowly pulling out of Pittsburgh citing hub financial losses. Between January and March 2009, all Florida, Indianapolis, Harrisburg, Richmond markets were eliminated, as well as all daily flights to Newark. In April 2009, US Airways again announced more Pittsburgh flight cuts, ending service to Los Angeles and San Francisco. US Airways Virtual Airline is committed to stay in Pittsburgh as long as the real life US Airways maintains a Pittsburgh presence.
Any pilot is welcome to contact me regarding any question or concern. USAVA maintains active forums, an active Team Speak server, and great pilots. These are great resources to obtain aviation knowledge.
